Thegovernment has announced a special benefit package for public sector employeesand pensioners, set to take effect from July 1, as part of efforts to supporttheir incomes.
Accordingto the government's announcement, starting July 1, 2025, ‘special benefits’will be provided at a rate of 10 percent for grades 1 to 9, and 15 percent forgrades 10 to 20.
Thisinformation was provided in a notification from the Finance Department of theMinistry of Finance. It also stated that the special benefit will be a minimumof 1,000 taka for employed persons and a minimum of 500 taka for pensioners.
FinanceAdvisor Salehuddin Ahmed proposed increasing special benefits for governmentemployees in the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 on Monday. In his budgetspeech yesterday, he said, “Considering that there has been no salary structureupdate since 2015, I am proposing to increase the amount of special benefitsfor government employees in this year's budget.”
Thisspecial benefit will be effective for employees and (reinstated) pensionersworking under the national pay scale in government–civil, autonomous, andstate-owned institutions, banks, insurance companies, financial institutions,Border Guard Bangladesh, and the police force.
Thebenefit will also be available to persons on post-retirement leave, suspendedemployees (at 50 percent of their final basic pay), and some contractualappointees.
However,it will not apply to employees on unpaid leave or those who have surrenderedtheir whole pension without restoration.
