Gazipur Agricultural University(GAU) has proudly secured the top position among all public universities inBangladesh in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings2025, marking a significant achievement for an agriculture-based nation likeBangladesh.
The globally renowned UK-basededucation magazine, Times Higher Education (THE), officially released the rankingsyesterday, June 18 (Wednesday), 2025, on their official website.
According to the publishedrankings, GAU ranked first among all public universities in Bangladesh andearned a distinguished position in the 801–1000 global band. The ImpactRankings assess the contributions and performance of universities across theglobe based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UnitedNations.
This year’s rankings evaluated theefforts of 2,526 prominent higher education institutions from 130 countries. Earlierthis year, in January 2025, GAU had also made headlines by securing the topnational position in the Times Higher Education World University SubjectRankings 2025, particularly excelling in the Life Sciences category among allpublic and private universities in Bangladesh. In addition to this recentrecognition, GAU also secured the top spot among all agricultural universitiesin Bangladesh in the THE Asia Rankings 2025. Furthermore, the university waslisted among the top 300 most innovative universities globally in the World’sUniversity rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2024. Expressing his satisfactionover this remarkable achievement, Professor Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman,Vice-Chancellor of Gazipur Agricultural University, stated: "Being rankedthe number 1 (one) public university in Bangladesh in the Times HigherEducation Impact Rankings 2025 is a matter of immense pride for us.
This global recognition reflectsour unwavering commitment to education, research and sustainable development.Our efforts to contribute meaningfully to the implementation of the UNSustainable Development Goals have laid the foundation for this success." VCfurther added: "I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated facultymembers, students, officers, administrative staff and day laborers whosetireless contributions made this achievement possible. This recognitioninspires us to be more responsible and forward-looking, enabling us to play alarger role both nationally and internationally in the fields of agriculturaleducation and research." It is worth noting that this year’s ImpactRankings feature 8 public and 12 private universities from Bangladesh,highlighting the growing global engagement of the country’s higher educationinstitutions.
