Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman presents credentials to Nepalese President
Newly appointed Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Shafiqur Rahman handed over credentials to Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel at a ceremonious event on Monday.     -AA

Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel received credentials from four newly appointed ambassadors amidst a special ceremony held at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas, on June 23.

Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman presented his credentials as the Resident Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Nepal. Similarly, President Paudel received Letters of Credence from Anil Sooklal, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa; Clemente Pedro Francisco Camenha, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Angola; and Mariano Agustin, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Argentine Republic.

Shafiqur Rahman, a career diplomat, joined Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal on June, 12, 2025 as  the Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He joined Bangladesh Foreign service in 2003 as a Cadre officer (FA) in the 21st batch (FA) of the BCS Exam.

In his professional career, Mr. Rahman served different bilateral and multilateral settings of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including the West Asia, East Europe, Africa, SAARC and BIMSTEC etc. He also held positions in the Administration, Consular and Welfare as well as Maritime unit in different capacities. Prior to this posting, he served the Ministry as Director General of the West Asia Wing. In this capacity, Mr. Rahman remained engaged with the promotion, protection, as well as formulation and execution of Bangladesh Government's policy priorities and interests with the Middle Eastern countries including the GCC countries. With his strategic understanding and insights in the region, he was considered to be an expert on Middle Eastern affairs. Earlier, he served various Missions abroad including Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh Embassy, Cairo, Egypt as Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d'Affaires  and BIMSTEC Secretariat, Dhaka. As the first Director of the organization, he took special interests in laying the foundation of the Secretariat while giving it an institutional shape.

Shafiqur Rahman holds a sound academic background having graduation and post-graduation in English Language and literature from Rajshahi University and a further Post graduation in International Relations from International University of Japan, Nigata. He came out as the top graduate and was nominated for the role of the valedictorian of the University for the Graduation year 2012 in recognition of his academic excellence and outstanding research work.

Shafiqur Rahman received extensive training on administration, change management and diplomacy from Bangladesh including Specialized Course on Diplomacy from Foreign Service Academy, Dhaka and Advanced Course on Foreign Affairs and Administration and Development (ACAD) from BPATC, Dhaka. He also attended short courses on Peace-Building (Japan), Global Leadership Program (Japan), Climate Change Diplomacy (UNITAR Online), UNCLOS (Australia and Norway), Conflict Resolutions (UK) and represented Bangladesh in a number of bilateral, regional and multilateral organizations and forums including BIMSTEC, IORA, QEF, UNLDC5, Global Alliance for Palestine and so on.

Shafiqur Rahman manifests good organizational, managerial and leadership abilities and is keen in personal and professional growth. He is deeply interested in policy research issues in South Asia and keenly follows developments in global politics with major focus on 'Geo-politics and Regionalism in South Asia, East Asia and the GCC, evolving Security and Economic architecture in the East Asia and the Pacific. In addition to Foreign policy issues, he is also a pursuant of Bangladesh's Economic and Diaspora diplomacy as well global climate change policy issues.

Shafiqur Rahman speaks in Bengali, English and Arabic languages. He is married and blessed with two children.
