People from Hindu community on Friday celebrated traditional Rath Yatra of Jagannath Dev amid festivities with due religious fervor.

A colourful procession was brought out in the afternoon from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple in capital's Swamibagh.

To ensure the event's security, members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Detective Branch (DB), and SWAT teams were visibly deployed along the procession route. Army and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel were also seen providing security at Dhakeshwari Temple.
On July 5, the ninth day of the festival, Jagannath's chariot will return from Dhakeshwari Temple to the ISKCON Swamibagh Ashram, following the same route.

The Hindus celebrate the festival commemorating the annual journey of Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.

According to Hindu calendar, the festival begins on Dwitiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Aashar.
