Holy Ashura observed in Rangpur, Rajshahi

Our Rangpur Correspondent says, the holy Ashura, marking the tragic 10th day of Muharram, was  observed in the disrtcit on Wednesday through various programs with due religious fervor and solemnity. The Muslims observed the day as a symbol of 'sacrifice and mourning' recalling the martyrdom  of Hazrat Imam Hussein Ibne Ali (RA), younger grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), in the battle of Karbala in Iraq on that day in Hijri year of 61.

A huge 'Tazia' procession was brought out from Muslim Para area in the city with participation of hundreds of Muslims who chanted slogans 'Hai Hussein, Hai Hussein.' The programs also included recitation from the Holy Qur'an, discussions and milad mahfils in the mosques, fasting and feeding of the poor and destitute people. The Islamic Foundation organized a discussion on 'Importance of Holy Ashura in Preserving Peace and Order in Society' at its Resource Centre in Chatra union under Pirganj upazila. Chairman of Chatra union parishad Enamul Haque Shahin presided over the discussion.

Mohtamim of Laldighirmela Hafizia Madrasha Hafez Md Shahidul Islam and Khatib of Chatra Chhotokua Jam-e-Mosque Moulana Md Abdul Mannan took part as the main discussants. The discussants called upon the religious leaders to preach real meaning of Islam, the religion of peace, for creating mass awareness to prevent militancy, extremism and terrorism in establishing sustainable peace in the society. In his concluding speech, Enamul Haque Shahin urged all concerned, including religious leaders, to establish justice and truth in the society through reflecting the great teachings of the Holy Ashura.

Our Rajshahi Correspondent says,  the Muslims in Rajshahi city like other parts of the country observed the holy Ashura on Wednesday marking the 10th day of Muharram with due religious solemnity and in a befitting manner.  The day was observed as a symbol of "sacrifice and mourning" recalling the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), in the battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram in Hijri 61.
Different religious organizations, including Islamic Foundation, observed the day through various programs.
