Six members of Khatihata Highway Police Station in Brahmanbaria, including Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mamun Rahman have been withdrawn on charges of ‘taking bribes’.
The other cops are assistant sub-inspector Biplu Barua, constables Shahabuddin, Mastu, Sakibul and Zahir Mia. They were attached to the office of the Superintendent of Police of the Highway Police's Cumilla Region as a disciplinary measure.
According to highway police and local sources, a patrolling police team stopped a Dhaka-bound covered van coming from Sylhet on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Khatihata area on July 3. Police realized Tk 80,000 from the covered van driver on charges of carrying illicit goods. The matter has come to light after a private TV channel ran a report in this regard.
Sub-Inspector Sajeeb Mia, who is now assigned to do the duties as officer-in-charge at Khatihata Highway police station, said, “Six police members have withdrawn over in an incident.”
Confirming the matter, Highway Cumilla region superintendent of police (SP) Khairul Alam said, “Over an allegation, six police personnel including the officer-in-charge have been withdrawn from Khatihata police station and attached to highway police Cumilla region office. Necessary actions will be taken following an investigation.”
