Controversy and Nepotism Disgrace New NOC General Assembly

Controversy and Nepotism Disgrace New NOC General Assembly

Most of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) members who have been named on the list of general assembly in Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) have astonished and shocked prominent sports organizers and sports lovers in the country. The profiles of nearly all the new NOC general assembly members show that these people have had almost no affiliations with sports throughout their careers and neither do they have any noteworthy accomplishments in Bangladesh's sports arena. Sources closely associated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports have reported that most of the new NOC general assembly members have been selected on equal terms with recommendation from thoroughly corrupted BOA official Syed Shahed Reza who was a straight away leader and sponsor of banned outfit Awami League and a very intimate friend to Sheikh Kamal.

A few esteemed sports figures have told The Asian Age on condition of anonymity that intelligence divisions should be assigned to verify the background of all the new NOC general assembly members. Even there are several people on this list whose names and particulars are disgraced with loan scams, court convictions and backing up the unseated fascists during overthrown ruling party Awami League's tenure.

These general assembly officials are very little known chaps on the sports turf and they don't even have the tiniest knowledge on Olympic Games or any other sports lineaments. The sports federations in Bangladesh will face grievous trouble if these people are allowed to run the NOC. Reports have surfaced that the Army Chief, who is BOA President, was misguided with false information to pick these inefficient, unfit and useless people for the new NOC general assembly.

The Asian Age has obtained the names of the new NOC general assembly from the website of National Sports Council (NSC). This kind of controversial selection of officials for the country's highest sports regulatory authority violates the laws and principles of the International Olympic Council. International Olympic laws show that people aged over 70 years can't be appointed in Olympic managerial panels in any country. Syed Shahed Reza, who explicitly abused power and spoiled BOA with narcotics, anomalies and nepotism for last many years, is behind the selection of these unworthy people in NOC. The Asian Age reported earlier and today would like to reiterate that Syed Shahed Reza intimidates and silences his critics pulling the name of the Army Chief mischievously and this is how Syed Shahed Reza is on an evil spree to downgrade the honour of the Chief of Staff of Bangladesh Army. This is a dire allegation which needs to be scrutinized faster. Otherwise Bangladesh's sports associations will face disrespect and embarrassment on the global stage.

A letter issued by Sajia Afrin, Assistant Director of National Sports Council or NSC requested the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) officially in a written form on 25 June 2025 to investigate the corruption charges that glared up about Syed Shahed Reza from 2012 to 2025. This letter from NSC illustrates different regulatory breaches of Bangladesh Olympic Association committed by Syed Shahed Reza during the previous years. Now the ball is in the court of ACC and the Army Chief to run a thorough and uncompromising inquiry to ascertain the squalid games Syed Shahed Reza played with BOA during his tenure as Secretary General and also to pull out Bangladesh's sports pitch from anarchy, graft, mismanagement, power abuse and diabolical syndicates.  Having Syed Shahed Reza in the decision making job in the country's sports rings is same as pampering the agents left behind by the repressive rulers who were ousted on 5 August 2024. People like Syed Shahed Reza belong to all out antagonistic flocks who deny the essence of the July Revolution.
