SC verdict on review petition over 'Warrant of Precedence' Aug 6

The Supreme Court today fixed August 6 for delivering its verdict over the review petition on "the Warrant of Precedence", which sets the rank order and state protocol among the officials of the state and other dignitaries.

After hearing the review, a six-member Appellate Division bench headed by Senior Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam on Wednesday fixed the date for the verdict.

Barrister Mohammad Salahuddin Dolon appeared in the court for the cabinet secretary while Barrister Nihad Kabir and Advocate Prabir Nieogi stood for the Bangladesh Judicial Service Association, BSS reports.

Senior lawyer Ahsanul Karim and Barrister M Abdul Qayyum argued for the Deputy Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General during the hearing. Besides, senior lawyer Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal appeared as an intervener.

Earlier in 1986, the government's Cabinet Division prepared the Warrant of Precedence as per the Rules of Business. Subsequently, after getting the President's approval, it was issued on September 11 in the same year. Later, it was amended various times.

The constitutional posts, the posts recognized and defined by the constitution, were kept below the ranks of the administrative cadre officers there.
