NCP is allied with interim government: TIB

 Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has said that the National Citizens Party or NCP has close alliance with the interim government and two NCP leaders belong to the ruling authorities. NCP is actually a King's Party, TIB officials further said.

TIB Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman addressed journalists at a press conference at TIB office in the capital on Monday. Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said "There is nothing to hide. NCP is a King's Party. Two prominent coordinators of NCP are working inside the interim government. NCP leaders are loyal to the interim government's Advisory Council. There are no doubts."

Dr. Iftekharuzzaman stated that the political scenario in Bangladesh became toxic and ominous after 5 August 2024. Extortions, abusing law and order forces for jeopardizing political dissidents, grabbing assets, occupying newspapers etcetera could not be restrained following the regime change in August last year, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman commented. He added that the young leaders are doing a suicidal form of politics by getting involved in mob attacks, bribery, corruption, political vengeance and so on.

TIB survey shows that 121 people were killed and 5 thousand 189 citizens were wounded across Bangladesh from August 2024 to June 2025 for reasons of political violence. BNP committed 92% of these violent activities, according to TIB report. TIB underlined Awami League for participating in 22% violence during the above period. The rest percentage of assaults and violations of law were committed by Jamaat and NCP, TIB reported.  

Since the overthrow of Awami League from power in August 2024, extortions of BDT 2 crore 21 lakh were mugged from transporters everyday in Dhaka city. TIB also stressed that mob gangs launched attacks on journalists, politicians and traders for last one year.
