Former minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, who was arrested in October following the fall of the Awami League government, has been released on bail.
He was released at 5:35 pm on Thursday (14 August) while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University Hospital, Keraniganj Jail Superintendent AKM Masum confirmed the matter.
His wife Ayesha Sultana recently submitted a written appeal to the chief adviser, seeking his release for advanced medical treatment.
Engineer Mosharraf had multiple cases filed against him in Dhaka and Chattogram. His release comes after securing bail in the most recent case lodged with Paltan Police Station.
On August 5 last year, he was taken from the prison hospital to Bangladesh Medical University Hospital after becoming very ill due to age-related health issues.
Following Thursday's bail order, prison authorities withdrew the guards assigned to him.
Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, a seven-time elected lawmaker from Chattogram-1, served as minister of civil aviation and tourism as well as minister of housing and public works during his political career.
He was arrested on 27 October last year from the Bhatara Police Station area of Dhaka.
