Shoes thrown at 'cultural fascists' in Dhaka University

A faction of students belonging to Dhaka University (DU) has termed a number of showbiz celebrities as cultural fascists. The same students and their followers threw shoes at the pictures of these celebrities on Saturday afternoon (16 August 2025) at Teachers and Students Center (TSC) on Dhaka University campus. These celebrities paid homage to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 15 August which angered these students.

This event has meanwhile gone viral on social media. The organizers of this program have blamed these showbiz stars for betraying the blood of the martyrs of the July Revolution and for supporting the ousted fascist rulers.

The cultural figures whose photographs were disgraced with shoes yesterday include singer Liton (Art Cell), Rahul Ananda, Siam (SP Creation), Jaher Alvi, Aruna Bishwas, Suman Anwar, Nazifa Tushi, Shaju Khadem, Mumtahina Toya, Sunerah, Farabi Hafiz, Pia Jannatul, Arash Khan, Khairul Bashar, Irfan Sajjad, Shakib Khan, Shadhin Khasru, Parsa Mehzabin, Kochi Khandaker, Meher Afroz Shawon etcetera.
