Livestock Department Suspends Square Pharma’s Import Permit

Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd. has once again come under controversy following allegations of dosage fraud and unauthorized repacking of the imported herbal coccidiostat “Herb-All Cox.” In response, the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) has suspended the renewal of the company’s Category-2 import license.

Dr.Shahinur Islam, Deputy Director in charge of Category-2 licensing at the DLS, confirmed the suspension, stating that Square was instructed to immediately engage in discussions with the affected farmer, Engineer Imrul Hasan, proprietor of Organic Chicken, in order to resolve the matter.

However, Hasan alleges that instead of seeking a solution, Square has been exerting pressure on him to withdraw his complaint.

“Although the Livestock Department directed Square to sit with us, they have not contacted me yet. Instead, they are making calls here and there, trying to collect my personal information,” Hasan told the media.

The DLS assured that the issue remains under strict monitoring and that a resolution will be pursued soon. But Hasan remains adamant:

“Those who suffered financial losses due to Square’s dosage fraud must be compensated. That is not an unreasonable demand. In the new Bangladesh, achieved through countless sacrifices, we cannot allow such injustices to be tolerated.”

Commercial Equations Under Scrutiny

The development comes at a time when Pakistan’s Commerce Minister, Jam Kamal Khan, has arrived in Dhaka on a four-day official visit. Sources confirmed that on Saturday, he is scheduled to visit Square Pharmaceuticals’ plant in Tangail. Observers believe this could pave the way for potential trade engagements between Square and Pakistan in the future.

Thus, while Square Pharmaceuticals faces suspension of its import permit at home, its parallel efforts to expand into international trade have raised new and pressing questions about the company’s credibility and accountability.
