The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against noted businessman and readymade garments (RMG) exporter Chairman of Noman Group Md. Nurul Islam over possessing more assets than exposed in official papers. ACC has pressed the charges on Md. Nurul Islam that he holds an asset volume of nearly BDT 19 crore which was not shown in his documents submitted to the financial regulators.
ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Shahjahan Miraz lodged the above lawsuit against Md. Nurul Islam on Monday. According to case papers, Md. Nurul Islam's wealth shows he owns properties equivalent to BDT 23 crore 40 lakh 88 thousand while he has another BDT 8 crore 30 lakh 51 thousand worth shares in Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL). ACC has reported that Nurul Islam's total wealth price amounts to BDT 62 crore 21 lakh.
ACC complains that Nurul Islam owns BDT 18 crore 97 lakh outside his official wealth statement. ACC has described in the case narration that holding assets in possession which are not shown in tax return is a punishable offence and hence the source of this sum will be examined by ACC investigators.
It may be added that Noman Group Chairman Md. Nurul Islam is the largest RMG exporter belonging to Bangladesh. Md. Nurul Islam could not be reached over phone yesterday for his comments on this issue.
