An attack on a mobile court, vandalism of an executive magistrate's vehicle and a road blockade have been reported at Maijdi area in Noakhali district.
The attack and vandalism occurred around 11:30 AM in front of Noakhali Zilla School on Monday. According to locals, the mobile court, led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of Noakhali District Administration, Md Fahim Hasan Khan, launched an operation to evict illegal structures on both sides of the city's roads around 11:00 AM. During the operation, several illegally parked vehicles were impounded.
Enraged by this, the vehicle owners and drivers blockaded the main road in Maijdi and vandalised the executive magistrate's car.
Upon receiving the information, teams of the army and police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control at around 1:00 PM.
According to the District Administration, the government has allocated specific stands for bus, private car and microbus drivers in Noakhali. A section of the Noakhali New Bus Stand has been designated for private car and microbus drivers.
However, instead of using the designated area, they have been parking their vehicles indiscriminately on the main road in front of Noakhali Zilla School, causing city-wide traffic jams. They have been warned multiple times about this issue but have not complied.
District Commissioner (DC) Khandaker Istiaque Ahmed said that members of the law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene and brought the
situation under control. The process of filing a case against the accused in this incident is underway, the DC added.
