Current situation is unfit for polls: Anisul Islam Mahmud

Chairman of a particular faction of Jatiya Party Anisul Islam Mahmud has said that the current situation is not fit for elections. He further said that the political crisis in Bangladesh will further deteriorate if elections are organized under present circumstances tattered with anarchy and shattered rule of law.

Anisul Islam Mahmud stated that unrestrained mob violence, economic nosedive, load shedding, inflation, detention trade in police stations, political vengeance etcetera have jeopardized peace and stability all over Bangladesh. He urged the interim government to think about it seriously whether it would be wise or not to go for elections now while total lawlessness is going on everywhere.

In Anisul Islam Mahmud's words "The interim government is saying that elections will be held in February. Jatiya Party also wants elections to be organized in the right time but before that an ambience safe and fit for elections must be established".

Anisul Islam Mahmud made the above comments on Thursday in the capital's Gulshan while exchanging views with his party's leaders and activists. Anisul Islam Mahmud blamed the corrupt members of law and order forces for conducting a detention trade across Bangladesh. He added that neither police department nor the military forces have been able to restrain mob outfits. Ordinary people are being framed in fictitious police cases, Anisul Islam Mahmud complained. How can politicians campaign in their constituencies during election time if false cases are lodged against them? Anisul Islam Mahmud asked this question.

Anisul Islam Mahmud congratulated Islami Chhatra Shibir on winning DUCSU elections. He commented that just being a large political party is not enough to win elections if public support is not there. He urged all concerned to take lessons from the results of the DUCSU elections.

Another Jatiya Party leader Ruhul Amin Hawlader said that he and his party honour the verdict of the students in Dhaka University during the DUCSU elections. He expressed hope that Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders will be working for the welfare and safety of all students belonging to Dhaka University.
