The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has abrogated the allocation of flats for 12 senior officials in the capital's Dhanmondi over anomalies, graft and regulatory breaches. These 12 posh flats were allocated for former Secretaries, election commissioners, retired judges etcetera.
ACC Director General Md. Akter Hossain conveyed this information to journalists on Thursday saying "It is part of the investigators' routine work to summon the concerned individuals for questioning who are found connected with irregularities."
The above 12 officials have been asked to visit the ACC Headquarters to face interrogation on 17, 18 and 21 September 2025. Allegations show that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina rewarded these particular 12 officials with expensive flats as gifts in exchange for manipulating and rigging the 2018 parliamentary elections. These 12 retired officials who have been placed under ACC scanner include former ACC Commissioner and retired judge Md. Jahurul Haque, former Senior Secretary Md. Yunusur Rahman, former ACC Commissioner Mozammel Haque Khan, former Secretary MA Quader Sarker, former Senior Secretary M Aslam Alam, former Secretary Aktari Momtaz, former Secretary Md. Sirajul Haque Khan, former Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Manzurul Basid, former Senior District and Sessions Judge Syed Aminul Islam, former Director General in Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Directorate Professor Nehal Ahmed, former election commissioner Md. Anisur Rahman and former Senior Secretary SM Golam Faruque.
A private television channel transmitted a report on the graft and violation of laws in allocating these 12 flats on 5 May 2025. ACC officials took this report into cognizance and raided these flats where they identified the authenticity of these allegations on 12 May.
ACC Deputy Director (Public Relations) Md. Akterul Islam told media professionals on 9 July 2025 that a special inquiry team has been set up to look into these allegations. Earlier on, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works nullified the allocation of these 12 luxurious flats on 8 July 2025.
