Bashir Shahriar , JnU Correspondent : Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Jagannath University (JnU) unit has installed a total of 33 purified water filters in the university cafeteria, common rooms, and various departments. The initiative was launched on Monday (September 22) as part of their Safe Drinking Water Program.
On the occasion, JnU Shibir Secretary Abdul Alim Arif said, “From its inception, Jagannath University has been oppressed, exploited, and deprived of its rightful needs. Even the university administration has failed to ensure safe drinking water for students. That is why Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has undertaken this safe drinking water program. From today, this program will continue.”
JnU Shibir President Md. Riazul Islam said,
“It is the administration’s responsibility to resolve all student-related problems. As a political student organization, it is our duty to highlight these issues to the administration. We informed them about the drinking water crisis, but the few filters they provided were not nearly enough to meet the demand of so many students. Therefore, as a student organization, we have taken this initiative.”
He further added, “In the next phase, we will install a cold water filter in the female dormitory. Since drying clothes there is difficult, we have also planned to install a washing machine in the female dormitory. Alongside this, we have taken the initiative to set up sanitary napkin vending machines for female students.”
