Social media post with Bengal partition map sparks trepidation

Far right political parties have implied that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in India is currently very much worried about the youth-led demonstrations which ousted ruling parties in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. Under these circumstances, Indian central government's Home Minister Amit Shah has advised the Indian Police Service to examine the principal features of all large agitations that took place across India from 1974 till now, reports daily Bengali newspaper Jugantor.

Northeast Indian state Manipur became turbulent when ethnic violence broke out in May 2023. Hundreds of people got killed in those clashes and many more people lost their households and properties during the blood-spilling attacks and counter attacks. Lots of homeless people are staying in refugee camps. Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh had to step down in the middle of this mayhem. Later on presidential rule was levied on Manipur state.

Communal tumult is going on in Assam and West Bengal too, according to Islami Chhatra Shibir. Chhatra Shibir leaders have claimed that 50 thousand Muslims in Assam have meanwhile lost their houses and assets. A panicky situation is prevailing in Assam, in terms of Chhatra Shibir's narrative. In the middle of all these infirmities, a leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir has sparked debates and trepidation by posting a map representing the partition of Bengal on his verified Facebook page on 19 September 2025. This Chhatra Shibir leader is the party's office secretary and former Chhatra Shibir president on Dhaka University campus Sibgatullah Sibga.

To translate Sibgatullah Sibga's Facebook status update "People in Assam were aware of our generosity and the narrow mindsets of West Bengal residents. For this reason Assamese people smiled with us during the 1905 partition of Bengal but today they are marginalized in their own homeland. They have to prove their Indian nationality at every step. Just imagine that you are born in your own country but everyone looks at you suspiciously in schools, colleges and even on streets. Muslims go to markets with intimidated hearts. Girls go to schools with panic in their minds. Yesterday I saw in newspapers that nearly 50 thousand Muslims have been rendered homeless. Many of their homes were demolished with bulldozers".

The above Facebook post uploaded by Chhatra Shibir leader Sibgatullah Sibga has meanwhile gone viral and it has also provoked questions, doubts, fears and debates. Former Dhaka University student Mir Salman Shamil who currently teaches in Franklin College responded to Sibgatullah's Facebook remarks in the following terms "Most probably Sibgatullah is right now the most vital Shibir leader. He has posted a map of Bengal partition on Facebook which is a significant occurrence. Is he trying to heat up the situation?"

It may be added that Islami Chhatra Shibir secured landslide victories in student union elections in Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University a few days ago.
