Bashir Shahriar,JnU Correspondent :  Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has evicted illegal shops and temporary structures from the areas adjacent to Jagannath University (JnU) and around Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka.

The drive was conducted today, Tuesday, under the leadership of DSCC Executive Magistrate Aminul Islam.

For a long time, these illegal establishments had been causing suffering to teachers, students, and the general public in their movement. Teachers and students of the university complained that apart from disrupting the academic environment, these shops had also become shelters for drug dealing and antisocial activities.

Earlier, based on the decision of the Teachers’ Association, the university administration had sent an official letter to the DSCC administrator, requesting the removal of the illegal structures.

During the operation, JnU Teachers’ Association General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Roich Uddin, University Proctor Professor Dr. Muhammad Tajammul Haque, along with teachers and officials, were present.

Regarding the drive, DSCC’s Public Relations Officer Md. Russell Rahman said, “As part of our regular eviction activities in the public interest, today we have evicted illegal shops and structures around Jagannath University and Bahadur Shah Park.”
