Bashir Shahriar,JnU Correspondent: For the first time, a day-long Mehendi Festival was organized at Jagannath University (JnU) by Bangladesh Islami Chhatri Sangstha.
The event was held on Tuesday (23 October) from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the central common room for female students.
Regarding the initiative, Chhatri Sangstha representative Redwana Khanom said, “Mehendi is a part of Islamic culture and can also be considered a Sunnah. The purpose of this event was to create a joyful atmosphere for students amid the pressures of studies and examinations.”
General students have described such an initiative for female students on campus as timely and praiseworthy. Many expressed their enthusiasm by participating in the festival.
Lamia Khatun, a student of the English Department, said, “It feels really good to have Mehendi applied to my hands. Events like this help us forget some of the academic stress.”
Rahima Akter, a student of the Islamic Studies Department, stated, “In other programs, veiled students often do not feel comfortable. But here, everyone was able to join spontaneously.”
Another representative of the Chhatri Sangstha, Fabiha Afifa, said that the purpose of the event was to spread harmony, friendship, and joy among students. She also noted that the organization had previously arranged programs such as hijab distribution, Qur’an distribution, and free medical camps. A Seerat Mahfil will be organized soon.
