The Bangladesh Women's team on Tuesday night touched down Sri Lanka to take part in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The Bangladesh Women's team will play two official warm-up matches against South Africa and Sri Lanka on September 25 and 27 respectively in Colombo.
"We are going leaving the country with an aim to do well in the World Cup," legspinner Fahim Khatun said ahead of leaving the country. "The preparation has been good. The BCB gave us excellent facilities. Hope we will perform up to the mark."
They will open the World Cup with the match against Pakistan in Colombo on October 2.
The Women's World Cup is set to run from September 30 to November 2.
Bangladesh are taking part in the marquee tournament for the second time, having appeared in the tournament for the first time in 2022 in New Zealand. In that edition, they beat Pakistan to make their maiden appearance memorable one.
Bangladesh Women's team however, didn't play any International matches since February. Only they had played some
matches against the Bangladesh Under-15 team and the result was not satisfactory.
"We'll go match by match but I think we have good chances to beat teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka," Head coach Sarwar Imran told the reporters before leaving Sri Lanka.
"There is no doubt that we'll give our hundred percent but apart from those two teams, other teams are much ahead of us in terms of strength and cricket culture," he noted.
"We are not overrating anyone else. We will play every match to win. If we play our best cricket, there is chance to beat anyone. When we enter the ground, we will see them as equals and play every match to win," he revealed, adding the
victory against Pakistan
in the last tournament would inspire them to eclipse the previous achievement.
"In the last World Cup, we beat Pakistan. This time we are expecting to win even more matches and that's the target."
"There was every effort to make our preparations good one. Whatever we didn't get, I'm not worrying about that. With whatever preparation we had, I believe the players have tried to give their best," she pointed out.
