Sewing machines and cash assistance were distributed among 41 helpless, poor women in Narail district on Monday.
Under the livelihood development programme for the backward communities, the Department of Social Services provided sewing machines to 41 helpless and poor women free of cost after completing 20-day training on tailoring.
They were also given Taka 10,000 each to become self-reliant by utilizing the training. The District Social Services Office organised the distribution programme at the Deputy Commissioner Office's conference room yesterday morning.
Deputy Commissioner Sharmin Akhter Jahan was present at the function as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office ZM Mizanur Rahman Khan in the chair. Sadar Upazila Social Service Officer Uttam Sarkar, Narail Municipality Social Service Officer Md. Sujauddin, Hospital Social Service Officer Toma Roy, Government Children's Home Superintendent Md. Ashadulla were present, among others.
The speakers at the event said that many women in our country are living helpless lives. To make them self-reliant, the government is arranging training to develop skilled manpower through various government departments including social services.
