Home Adviser Lt. General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury responds to questions from journalists yesterday at the Secretariat. -AA
It has already glared up through news coverage and social media that the faces of the idols of Asur were bearded in more than 800 Durga Puja pavilions by miscreants across Bangladesh this year. Home Adviser Lt. General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has pointed fingers at some intellectuals and vested quarters who are fascist agents for these occurrences to trigger communal violence.
Lt. General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that investigation is going on to find out the real culprits behind this disgraceful offence though no one has been yet arrested in this connection.
The Home Adviser provided the above information while speaking to journalists on Sunday at the Secretariat in Dhaka city. A meeting was held in the Home Ministry yesterday in which upcoming elections, illegal arms recovery, student union elections in some universities, Rohingya crisis etcetera were discussed, Lt. General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury told reporters.
The Home Adviser stated that Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus's face was distorted during Durga Puja ceremonies in a neighbouring country which might have links with the felony of bearding idols in puja pavilions in Bangladesh. Lt. General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury commented that fascist followers conspired to destabilize the Chittagong Hill Tracts and to jeopardize the recently
concluded Durga Puja. The Home Adviser appreciated Bangladesh Army, intelligence divisions and law and order forces for keeping up sound and uninterrupted security arrangements across Bangladesh while Durga Puja was going on. This year's Durga Puja was celebrated in a peaceful and harmonious ambience, the Home Adviser further stated.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury remarked that it's up to the Election Commission whether banned outfit Awami League would be allowed to contest polls. He declined to say anything about the likelihood of withdrawing ban on ousted political party Awami League's programs.
