Eight Bangladeshi citizens were killed in a tragic road accident in Oman on Wednesday.
Seven of the victims were residents of Sarikait Union in Swandip upazila, Chattogram.
The accident occurred around 3:20 pm local time (5:20 pm Bangladesh time) in Duqm Sidra area. Ten of the eleven passengers in the vehicle died on the spot. Eyewitness Sajib Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi living in Oman, said, "The victims worked as fishermen.
They were returning from the sea after fishing when a speeding vehicle caused the accident." Another expatriate, Shipon, confirmed that the bodies were taken to Duqm Hospital morgue.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Oman has started the process to bring the bodies back home.
Families of the deceased are mourning the loss and waiting to receive their loved ones.
Six of the seven identified victims from Sarikait union are Mohammad Amin Saudagar (son of Ali Akbar Serang), Arju (son of Shahid Ulla), Mohammad Bablu (son of Monu Mia), Sahab Uddin (son of Siddiq Ahmed), Mohammad Roki (son of Ibrahim Mistry), and Juel (son of Jamal Uddin).
