The Faculty of Veterinary Science of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), celebrated World Egg Day 2025 in a festive atmosphere on Friday, recognizing three outstanding contributors to the country’s egg production and poultry industry.
The honorees are Dr. Mohammad Kamruzzaman Masud, Chairman of VNF Agro Ltd; Dr. Md. Shahadat Hossain, Proprietor of S.S. Agrovet; and Md. Alamgir Kabir, a poultry farmer from Muktagacha.
The event began at 10 a.m. with the release of balloons in front of the Veterinary Faculty Building-2, inaugurated by Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science.
Following the inauguration, a colorful rally paraded through various roads on campus before concluding at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall. Teachers, students, and poultry entrepreneurs took part in the rally.
Afterward, the faculty distributed free eggs among students, pedestrians, and day laborers from a stall near the faculty gate.
Rickshaw-puller Md. Shafik said, “We work hard every day and can’t always afford eggs. Getting free eggs today made me really happy. If such programs happened more often, people like us would benefit a lot.”
Student Arafat Hossain added, “An egg isn’t just food-it’s a source of strength. I’m proud to be part of this program. Everyone should eat at least one egg a day.”
In total, the faculty distributed around 2,500 eggs, including 1,000 eggs to three orphanages- Al Manar Orphanage and two others in Char Nilikhia and plans to distribute another 500 eggs at two local schools on Sunday.
Later, at 11 a.m., a seminar titled “The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition” was held at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall. Speakers highlighted the nutritional value of eggs and their role in ensuring national food security.
The seminar was moderated by Professor Dr. Mohammad Ferdousur Rahman Khan, Member Secretary of the World Egg Day Celebration Committee. The keynote paper was presented by Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam of the Department of Pharmacology.
Among others, Professor Dr. Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Convener of the Celebration Committee; Professor Dr. Md. Mahbub Alam, Director of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Food Security and Professor Dr. Md. Mokbul Hossain, former Dean of the Faculty, attended the program along with other teachers and students.
As part of the celebration, 29 undergraduate and postgraduate students participated in a poster presentation competition, and 11 winners were awarded during the seminar.
In his address, Dean Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman said, “Eggs are one of the most complete foods, containing almost all essential nutrients. Eating an egg every day ensures personal and family nutrition security. Our aim is to spread this awareness across communities.”
