CGS seminar stresses participation of women and youths in politics

The Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) yesterday organized a colloquium titled "Breaking Barriers: Women & Youth in Leadership?" at the Khulna Press Club, Khulna. Representatives from various political parties, young politicians, women leaders and members of civil society participated in the event.

The purpose of the session was to provide a platform for cross-party discussion on barriers and opportunities for women in politics, and to empower youth activists to critically engage with gender norms in political leadership. Speakers included: Azizul Baree Helal, Central Information Secretary of the BNP Central Committee; Adv. Jahangir Hossain Helal, Secretary of the Khulna City branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami; Mufti Amanullah, President of the Khulna City branch of Islami Andolon Bangladesh; Adv. Md. Babul Hawlader, former General Secretary of the CPB, Khulna; and Dr Abdullah Chowdhury, Organizer for the NCP Khulna City.

The colloquium was moderated by Zillur Rahman, President of CGS. The workshop was part of CGS's ongoing project "Women and Youth Engagement in Politics in a Post-Uprising Bangladesh", supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh.
