Kali Puja begins in Mohanganj with festivity

Kali Puja or Shyama Puja, the second largest festival after Durga Puja of Bangalee Hindu community, began today in Mohanganj of Netrakona amid due religious fervor and enthusiasm.

Netrakona's Mohanganj Kali Puja festival is well-known throughout the country. This festival is an excellent example of communal harmony. Like every year, several lakhs of devotees gather for this three-day festival. Kali Puja is also called Deepabali or Diwali, the festival of lights. This time, the Deepabali or Diwali festival and Sri Sri Shyama Puja are being held in 29 temples and pavilions across the municipality and upazila. The police administration has tightened security measures at the municipal and upazila levels on the occasion of Diwali festival and Shyama Puja (Kali Puja).  Mohanganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Amena Khatun has already held several meetings to exchange views with the Hindu religious leaders.

To mention, Kali Puja, worshipping the Goddess of strength, wisdom and enlightenment, is celebrated at the night of Amavasya of the Bangla month of Kartik. Marking the festival, members of the Hindu community lit up earthen lamps (Pradeep) at their houses, temples and crematoriums in memory of their departed elderly persons.
