Mohanganj youth garlanded with shoe for making derogatory remarks against Islam

A Hindu youth was forced to wear a garland of shoes in Mohanganj upazila of Netrakona on charges of hurting religious sentiments. The incident took place at Bhatia village under Suair union of the upazila on Tuesday night. The victim Rajon Sutradhar, 22, son of Sananda Chandra Sutradhar, is an honors fourth year student of a college in Mymensingh.  It has been alleged that Rajon made a derogatory comment over beard on facebook post. On the day of the incident, 15-16 local youths entered his house and tortured Rajon in front of his family member, tied him with a garland of shoes and assaulted him. 

Sebak Sarkar, member of Suair union, said, "I learnt that some youths tortured Rajan and forced him wear a garland of shoes for commenting on Facebook about beard." This is a sad incident." Al Mamun, a resident of Alipur village, UP member of Ward No. 8, said, "Some locals entered Rajan's house and tortured him and made him wear a garland of shoes after accusing him of religious insults. Such incidents are not desirable." 

On Thursday, Md. Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mohanganj police station, said, "I got the news. I was busy with the puja. The police have been sent to find out the details of this matter. Appropriate action will be taken on proper investigation."
