Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) organized a medical campaign in Burhanuddin of Bhola on Thursday. They also distributed relief goods among unregistered fishermen in Kaliganj of Barishal. Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque, media officer at coast guard headquarters, confirmed the matter on Thursday afternoon.
He said, "Since its inception, Bangladesh Coast Guard has been responding to the various needs of the underprivileged, helpless and affected people in coastal and riverine areas and in socio-economic development. The Coast Guard has been providing free medical services to the needy and low-income people through medical campaigns from time to time. In continuation of this, a medical campaign was organized by the Coast Guard Base Bhola at Kotba Government Primary School in Burhanuddin police station of Bhola from 10am to 4pm on Thursday. A total of 283 helpless, poor, distressed and children were provided free medical services and medicines at the medical camp."
Meanwhile, a relief distribution and exchange of views meeting was held among 100 unregistered fishermen at Coast Guard Station Kaliganj at 11 am. Mehendiganj Upazila Fisheries Officer and local fishermen were present at the meeting.
At the meeting, awareness on various issues including prevention of Jatka killing, protection of mother Hilsa, and problems of fishermen and steps to overcome them were discussed. "Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such public service activities in future", the media officer added.
