Fifteen Arrested in Mymensingh for Gas Theft from Pipeline

The Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited continues its ongoing drives to identify and eliminate illegal gas usage. Under the supervision of Executive Magistrates appointed by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division and through Titas Gas’s own management, extensive operations have been conducted in various areas of Narayanganj to remove unauthorized gas connections.

As a result of these drives, criminal groups involved in illegal gas connections have recently shifted their base of operations to the Mymensingh area. These groups have been illegally supplying gas connections to lime factories for unlawful financial gain.

In this context, on 26 October 2025, two service tees were illegally installed on the 6" × 1000 psig transmission pipeline from Char Raghurampur, Mymensingh to Netrokona, at a location known as Shambhuganj, Mymensingh, with the intent to supply gas to an unauthorized lime factory. This caused a gas leakage.

Upon immediate action, officials and employees of the company, with the assistance of the police, arrested 15 individuals involved in the illegal gas connection. The detainees were handed over to the local police station, where a case has been filed against them.

The Titas Gas authorities maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal gas connections. These drives will continue, and legal action will be taken against all those involved in illegal gas connections.

It is noteworthy that from September 2024 to 25 October 2025, through various operations, a total of 71,807 illegal gas connections—including 389 industrial, 520 commercial, and 70,898 residential connections—have been disconnected. Additionally, 152,678 burners have been removed, and approximately 291.3 kilometers of gas pipelines have been dismantled during these operations.
