A total of 174 irregular Bangladeshi nationals have repatriated from Libya through a chartered flight of Burak Air under a coordinated initiative supported by the Government of Libya and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the voluntary repatriation was facilitated jointly by the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
The flight carrying the returnees landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, said a press release on Wednesday.
Most of the returnees had reportedly entered Libya through human traffickers, who lured them with promises of irregular sea migration to Europe.
Many of them were also subjected to abduction and torture at various times during their stay in Libya.
