National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam on Wednesday said that there is no possibility of holding elections in the country unless the July Charter is implemented.
He Islam came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after talking with some candidates for the formation of conveners' committees of eight districts and city units of the party under Rangpur division, held at the Rangpur Tourism Motel on Wednesday.
Nahid Islam said, "We want election early. The country needs an elected government for stability. For this reason, the reform process must be implemented soon."
"If the elections are to be held in February, the issues of the July Charter must be finalized and at the same time, the Election Commission must be reformed to ensure a level playing field in the elections," he said. "The next government will formally incorporate the constitutional reform into the constitution. Due to which the next government will not have any jurisdiction to make changes," he continued.
No single party can take over leadership and form a government alone. Without minimum unity among all parties, it will not be possible for anyone to form a government or sustain parliament."
The interview programme was attended by NCP member-secretary Akhtar Hossen, its chief organiser of the northern region Md Sarjis Alam, organising secretary of the Rangpur division Dr Atiq Mujahid, Sadia Farzana Dina and other central leaders.
