Alliance likely with pro-reform forces: Hasnat Abdullah

Alliance likely with pro-reform forces: Hasnat Abdullah

Hasnat Abdullah, chief coordinator of the National Citizens' Party (NCP), has reiterated his party's stance to forge an alliance with the political forces who support reforms and Bangladesh.

He was talking to journalists after the inaugural ceremony of the NCP district office in Samabay Bhaban at Bangbandhu Road in Narayanganj city on Tuesday (November 11, 2025).

Hasnat Abdullah said, "Our convener Nahid Islam has made it clear that the party will remain independent but is open to forming alliances with those who stand for reform. If any political or social forces who support reforms, stand for Bangladesh, oppose Indian hegemony, and promote communal harmony, want to unite, we are ready to form an alliance with them. But those who oppose reforms, obstruct the reform process, or act against the aspirations of people, NCP never form an alliance with them."

A views-exchange meeting was held at the new office with participation of leaders and activists from various levels. "Those who took a stand against reform, who obstructed the country's reform initiatives, who acted against public aspirations-there can be no alliance with them. We have always made compromises for the greater national interests and building national consensus for reforms," the young leader added.

Regarding the possible return of the Awami League, Hasnat Abdullah said, "The fall of the Awami League did not occur through ballots, so it cannot be brought back through ballots. The AL was overthrown through a mass uprising. When a political party is toppled by a mass uprising, it means its political relevance has expired. A mass uprising occurs when a party's ideology and policies go against public aspirations."

"Those who are now trying to legitimize the return of that party through ballots are actually legitimizing arson terrorism. Therefore, there is no alternative to unity among anti-fascist political forces," he further said.

Abdullah Al Amin, NCP's central joint member-secretary and head of the disciplinary committee; Shawkat Ali, central organizer; Ahmedur Rahman Tonu, central member; and Tuhin Khan, senior vice president of the NCP youth wing Jatiya Juboshokti, along with leaders and activists from various levels were present at the event, among others.
