Senior officers belonging to Dhaka Metropolitan Police addressed a press briefing on Saturday about cops' investigation over a murder victim whose dead body was found near the High Court a couple of days ago. -Collected
Police Department's Detective Branch (DB) sounds suspicious that the dismembered corpse of a businessman called Ashraful Haque found in front of High Court in Dhaka city a couple of days ago might have been the victim of a love affair. DB officers made these comments with reference to prime suspect Jorej who has been in the meantime arrested.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) informed media workers on Saturday morning that Jorej had plans to extort 10 lakh taka from Ashraful Haque by framing him in a honey trap with another arrestee Shameema Akter. Shameema Akter has told RAB that Ashraful Haque was brought to Dhaka for seizing the above amount from him, RAB officers said during yesterday's press briefing though it is not yet clear why Ashraful Haque was killed instead of taking money from him. DB arrested Jorej from Daudkandi, Cumilla on Friday. Additional Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said at another press conference on Saturday that the murder was committed as consequences of a triangular love story.
Police personnel recovered two drums on Thursday evening in which the chopped off pieces of a dead body was found close to the High Court premises in Dhaka city.
The corpse was identified with the help of fingerprints and National ID card database. This is how murder victim Ashraful Haque was recognized. Ashraful Haque hails from Badarganj upazila belonging to Rangpur district. Ashraful Haque's elder sister filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station on Friday in connection with this occurrence. DB cops arrested Jorej on Friday night.
DMP Additional Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam told journalists that Jorej returned from Malaysia around one month and a half ago. Jorej got in touch with Shameema Akter on social media and they became entangled in a love relationship. Reportedly Ashraful Haque and Shameema Akter had plans to pay 14 lakh taka to Jorej to send him to Japan.
Allegedly Shameema Akter and Jorej dropped two drums on the premises of High Court and moved out of Dhaka city. Anyway, both Jorej and Shameema are now under the custody of law and order forces.
