A shocking incident has come to light in Cumilla, where a man allegedly killed his mother and younger brother after being obstructed about his involvement in drug trafficking. The incident occurred on Monday (November 17) morning at Basantpur village, a border area of Adarsha Sadar Upazila in Cumilla.
Following the incident, the alleged Billal Hossain Billal reportedly fled, though police have detained his wife for questioning. The victims have been identified as Rahela Begum, 65, and her younger son Kamal Hossain, 35, residents of that village.
Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mohinul Islam confirmed the incident. According to police and local sources, Billal Hossain brought drugs into his house on Monday morning.
At that time, his younger brother Kamal Hossain returned home after attending a religious gathering (Waz Mahfil). Kamal reportedly confronted Billal, asking him not to bring drugs into the house, which led to a heated argument between the brothers. Billal then allegedly armed himself with a knife and attacked Kamal. When their mother Rahela Begum tried to intervene, she was also attacked.
Kamal Hossain died instantly at the scene, and Rahela Begum succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.
OC Mohinul Islam said that Billal's wife has been taken into custody for questioning. Billal Hossain has been involved in drug trafficking for a long time, and the attack appears to have been motivated by Kamal's attempt to stop him.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Police have launched a drive to apprehend Billal.
