JCD leader killed while celebrating Sheikh Hasina verdict

A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader was killed during the distribution of sweets to celebrate the death penalty verdict on former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It happened at Babuganj upazila in Barishal district on Monday (17 November 2025). 

The murder victim is Rabiul Islam (30) who was local Chhatra Dal unit vice president. Babuganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahirul Islam has confirmed that one individual was stabbed to death on Monday while celebrating the verdict issued on ex Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by the International Crimes Tribunal. 

OC Jahirul Islam told reporters that the violent clash occurred over arguments about inviting certain guests to the celebration. An altercation broke out between JCD leaders Rabiul Islam, Awal Hawlader, Mohammad Russell and Mohammad Shakil on Monday evening over distributing sweets. At one point of the heated verbal dispute JCD leader Rabiul 

Islam was attacked with sharp weapons reportedly by his fellow party members led by Awal Hawlader.
 
Local inhabitants rushed wounded Rabiul Islam to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal where duty doctors declared him dead. Political sources have informed that Awal Hawlader had acute rivalry with Rabiul Islam over securing the post of Shechchhashebak Dal General Secretary in BNP unit in Babuganj, Barishal.  
 
Sub Inspector Jahid Hossain belonging to Babuganj Thana has said that senior police officers have inspected the spot where Rabiul Islam was stabbed to death. Raids are underway to detain the killers, SI Jahid Hossain told journalists.
