The National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a project worth Tk 1,694.75 crore for the development of Narayanganj City Corporation (Nasik).
The authorities concerned said that if the project is implemented, there will be a revolutionary change in the supply of drinking water in the city corporation area. The ECNEC meeting last Monday (December 1) approved the Narayanganj Green and Resilient Urban Development Project under the Local Government Department. The City Corporation will implement the project with financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project will start in the current fiscal year and will be completed by 2031.
According to Narayanganj City Corporation sources, the project includes expansion and rehabilitation of Godnail Water Treatment Plant in Siddhirganj, installation of 20 km transmission line and 280 km distribution line, installation of 14 DMAs, rehabilitation of 20 new deep tube wells and 20 tube wells, connection of water lines and smart meters to 35,000 holdings, installation of 27 water ATM booths, construction and renovation of 27 km of drains, construction of parks, playgrounds and open public spaces on 5 hectares of land. Narayanganj City Corporation Administrator Dr. Abu Naser Mohammad Abdullah said, "If the project is implemented, a sustainable and safe water supply system will be ensured for the city residents."
He sought cooperation from the residents regarding the implementation of the project and called for regular payment of water bills and holding tax.
