A Dhaka court has ordered Nassa Group's owner Nazrul Islam Mazumder to be placed on remand once again for three days in connection with a murder case committed during the 2024 July Uprising.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka Md. Shefat Ullah issued the above order on Monday after a hearing was held on the petition of the investigating officer. Sub Inspector Rezaul Karim filed a murder case against Nazrul Islam Mazumder for killing a man called Kamal Hossain Sabuj. Sub Inspector Rezaul Karim applied to the court on 7 November 2025 seeking permission to place Nazrul Islam Mazumder on remand over the above murder case one more time.
Exim Bank's former Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder was produced before the court according to directives from the judges concerned. State Counsel Muhammad Shamsujjoha raised different points in support of the remand petition. Advocate Muhammad Shamsujjoha said at the court that Nazrul Islam Mazumder aided ousted fascist Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with illegally obtained money for 17 years. People like Nazrul Islam Mazumder instigated Sheikh Hasina to kill ordinary citizens who demanded their voting rights, Muhammad Shamsujjoha stated. The State Counsel also asserted that financial fraudsters and bank bandits like Nazrul Islam Mazumder are on a broad scale responsible for transforming Sheikh Hasina into a fascist ruler.
Lawyer Sadekur Rahman Tomal advocated for Nazrul Islam Mazumder at the court. Sadekur Rahman Tomal applied to the court for Nazrul Islam Mazumder's bail. Sadekur Rahman Tomal stated that his client was abroad during the July demonstrations. At the same time Nazrul Islam Mazumder informed the court that he is a cardiac patient which is why he was afraid of being placed on remand. He requested the court to allow him to face interrogation at the jail gate. Prosecution Department Sub Inspector Moktar Hossain told reporters that the court pronounced instructions to authorities concerned to get Nazrul Islam Mazumder remanded for three days.
The murder case for which Nazrul Islam Mazumder is sued describes that murder victim Kamal Hossain Sabuj was shot dead on 19 July noon 2024 at Batar Goli area belonging to the capital's Gulshan. Police Department lodged cases against 100 to 150 Awami League leaders and activists on 7 July 2025 over this occurrence.
