Agriculture scientists belonging to the Bangladesh Academy of Agriculture (BAAG) on Wednesday held a seminar titled “Improving Crops for a Growing World: Wide Crossing and Molecular Cytogenetics for Precision Crop Improvement” at the Conference Room of the Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF), Dhaka. The seminar was sponsored by Supreme Seed Company, according to a press release received on Wednesday (10 December 2025).
Dr. Nurul Islam Faridi, Senior Scientist at the Department of Soil & Crop Sciences, Texas A&M University, delivered the keynote presentation. He discussed how wild plant genetics, wide crossing, and molecular cytogenetics are contributing to next-generation crop development and supporting global efforts to enhance climate resilience and productivity.
Researchers, academic scholars, scientists and professionals from various agricultural institutions participated in the event. Speakers emphasized the need for adopting advanced genetic tools and science-driven approaches in Bangladesh’s crop research programs to address emerging challenges. Participants noted that BAAG’s continued initiatives are strengthening national research capacity and promoting modern, science-driven crop improvement efforts, the press release concludes.
