All relatives, friends, and well-wishers are hereby informed that Kazi Fazlur Rahman, former Adviser to the First Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, former Secretary and a Member of the Planning Commission, passed away last night at his residence (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un).
All of his children are in the process of returning to Bangladesh from abroad. His mortal remains are currently kept at the BIRDEM Mortuary. The first Janaza prayer will be held in Dhaka on Monday, 15 December 2025, after Asr prayer, at the
Dhanmondi Road No. 7 Mosque. The second Janaza prayer will take place on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, after Zuhr prayer, at his ancestral village Shiluwa, Banglabazar, Chhagalnaiya Upazila, Feni. Following the Janaza, he will be laid to rest at the family graveyard.
Kazi Fazlur Rahman is a retired bureaucrat and former Adviser to the First Caretaker Government of Bangladesh. He pursued his undergraduate studies in Statistics at the University of Dhaka and the London School of Economics. He later undertook advanced studies in Public Administration at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and in Development Economics at the University of Oxford.
He began his professional career as a lecturer at the University of Dhaka before joining the Civil Service of Pakistan. Following the independence of Bangladesh, he served in numerous senior administrative positions within the Government of Bangladesh. His career also included significant roles in international development organizations, notably the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, where he held senior positions.
In recognition of his contributions to the education sector in Bangladesh, he received awards from UNICEF and the Government of Turkey. In his post-retirement life, he has remained highly active as a columnist, writer, and philanthropist. Until his death, he remained actively engaged in a wide range of social and philanthropic activities.
