MOFA summons Pranay Verma over Sheikh Hasina's provocations

Bangladesh interim government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has summoned Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pranay Verma to expostulate on former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's alleged provocation to aggravate law and order situation inside Bangladesh. MOFA has stated that Sheikh Hasina has been making attempts from India since August 2024 to stimulate terrorist activities across Bangladesh and to baffle Bangladesh's upcoming general elections. MOFA has expressed worries about these issues to the Indian High Commissioner.  Bangladesh Foreign Ministry informed through a press release on Sunday that Sheikh Hasina, who has been residing in India for more than one year, has been provoking her violent followers to carry out subversive activities inside Bangladesh.

MOFA regards such roles by Sheikh Hasina as harmful for rule of law in Bangladesh and as threatening factors for Bangladesh's elections which are scheduled to be held in February 2026.

Dhaka has also urged the Indian government to hand over Sheikh Hasina and the ousted ruling party's Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to Bangladesh for prosecuting them.

Bangladesh interim government has also sought cooperation from the Indian authorities so that the assailants who attempted to murder July revolutionary Sharif Osman Hadi cannot escape to India.

According to MOFA press note issued yesterday, the Indian High Commissioner has assured about cooperating with Bangladesh for organizing elections smoothly and peacefully.
