CU observes Martyred Intellectuals Day

Comilla University (CoU) observed Martyred Intellectuals Day, paying homage to the valiant intellectuals who were brutally killed during the Liberation War. On the day, a condolence rally started from in front of the administrative building at around 10:30 am on Sunday and ended at the foot of Shahid Minar along Krishnachura Road.

Later, a wreath was placed at Shahid Minar on behalf of the university family under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Haider Ali in memory of the intellectuals.

In addition to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Haider Ali, Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim, Registrar (Additional Duty) Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, martyr intellectual and convener of the Victory Day Celebration Committee Dr. Mohammad Suhrab Uddin, along with deans of various faculties, department heads, teachers, officials, employees and students.Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Haider Ali said, 'Even now, there is a conspiracy in the country, there is a plan to wipe out the talented, brave, intelligent people, we hate it. We seek forgiveness for the souls of all those who gave their lives to make Bangladesh an independent country again, to stand tall on the earth.'

Convener of the Day Celebration Committee Dr. Mohammad Sohrab Uddin said, "We became independent in 1971, got an independent state, an administrative boundary. But this movement is a long-standing one. We pay our humble respects to all the martyrs of the Bengali independence and freedom movement on this day."
