On the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals’ Day 2025, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) paid profound homage to the nation’s greatest sons. Remembering the martyred intellectuals who fell victim to a brutal attempt to cripple the nation intellectually on the eve of the Liberation War’s final victory, BUET offered floral wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur yesterday morning (14 December).
BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman laid a wreath at the memorial. Members of the BUET community stood in solemn silence and deep reverence, honoring the supreme sacrifice of the martyred intellectuals and praying for eternal peace of their departed souls.
The tribute ceremony was attended by the Deans of various faculties, Heads of Departments, Director of the Directorate of Students’ Welfare, Registrar, Provosts, Heads of Offices, Directors of Institutes and Centers, as well as teachers, officers, and staff of the university. Grief over the loss of the nation’s brightest minds was evident in the voices and eyes of all present, alongside a firm resolve to build the country guided by their ideals.
It is worth noting that the martyred intellectuals remain the conscience and guiding light of the nation. While their sacrifice can never truly be repaid, BUET believes that the most meaningful tribute lies in building a nation enriched with education, research, and humanistic values. On Martyred Intellectuals’ Day, BUET reaffirmed this very commitment.
