Human Chain and Prayer Gathering by UTL in Protest of the Attack on Osman Hadi

 
The Jagannath University (JnU) chapter of the University Teachers Link (UTL) organized a human chain and a prayer gathering protesting the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency. The program was also held to pray for his recovery following the attack in the Bijoynagar area of the capital.

The human chain took place on Monday in front of the university's Central Shaheed Minar. After the Zuhr prayer, a doa (prayer) gathering was held at the Central Mosque of the university.

Speaking at the human chain, UTL Central Member Secretary Professor Dr. Bilal Hossain said, "We know that Sharif Osman Hadi is the voice of the people of this country. Hadi is a force that speaks for independence and sovereignty. He is the voice of eighteen crore people. The people of the country know why those who shot Hadi did so. Over the past fifteen years, we have witnessed political fascism. Those who were at the peak of political fascism have crossed borders and taken refuge in a neighboring country. But the group associated with cultural fascism still exists in Bangladesh. Sharif Osman Hadi has been working to build unity among the people against this cultural fascism."

He further said, "We see that while other candidates enter the election field with pockets full of money, when Osman Hadi campaigns, people give money to him. This is money of love, not money obtained through force or oppression. Today, eighteen crore people are crying for Osman Hadi because he has become their voice. Sharif Osman Hadi has become the voice of the farmers, workers, teachers, and students of this country. Those who tried to silence Hadi's voice, those who openly fired shots, their identities are still unknown to us. We clearly state that those involved in this attack must be arrested without any delay or excuses. There is no benefit in saying where the killers have fled. Wherever the killers are, they must be apprehended."

At the human chain, UTL JnU Chapter Member Secretary Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman Sadi said, "Osman Hadi cannot be finished. We believe that Hadi will be reborn in every household, and along with that, the hopes and aspirations of the July Revolution will be realized. We will implement our demand for true independence. We want our Hadi to recover and return among us."

After the human chain, a prayer gathering was organized at the university's Central Mosque after the Zuhr prayer, seeking Hadi's recovery. Present at the doa gathering were the President of the University Teachers' Association, Professor Dr. Mosharraf Hossain, UTL JnU Chapter Convener Abu Layek, and teachers and students from various departments.
