Planning Adviser Dr. Wahid Uddin Mahmud has said that it isnecessary to decentralize the communication system as well as revamping railways and river routs.
He made the remark on Sunday at the Sarak Bhaban Auditorium in the capital while addressing a seminar involving different stakeholders.
The event was jointly organized by the Road Transport and HighwayS Division and the Roads and Highways Department.
Wahid Uddin Mahmud said, ''We are ignoring our low cost railways and river routes while giving utmost priorities on road communications due to political or commercial interests.''
Road, Transport and Bridges Ministry's Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan said due to lack of coordination in development activities in the transport sector, other sectors including agriculture and environment are being affected. However, the government is putting emphasis on an integrated communication and transport system.
The event was presided over by Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Muhammad Ziaul Haque. Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Dr. Sk. Moinuddin, among others, was present.
