Lawyer Alif murder case sent to trial court

After completing all legal steps, the Supreme Court and the court have ordered to send the murder case of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif, a member of the Chattogram District Bar Association, to the trial court.

The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakkar Siddique issued this order on Tuesday (December 23).  

The court's Assistant Public Prosecutor Md. Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury said that the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court has ordered the case of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif's murder to be sent to the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court for further judicial proceedings. At that time, Jamal Uddin, the father of the martyred lawyer Alif and the plaintiff in the case, was present in the court.

After that, the judicial proceedings of the case will start in the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court or any other court determined by that court. Out of the 39 accused named in the charge sheet of the Alif murder case, 17 are still absconding. Arrest warrants have been issued against the absconding accused, along with Hulia and Croki warrants. After that, a notice has been published in the newspaper.
The accused in the chargesheet include Chandan Das Methar, Ripon Das, Rajiv Bhattacharya, Shuvo Kanti Das, Aman Das, Bunja, Ranab, Bidhan, Vikas, Ramit Prakash Das, Rumit Das, Nayan Das, Omkar Das, Vishal, Lala Das, Sameer, Sohel Das, Shiv Kumar, Biglal, Parash, Ganesh, Om Das, Poppy, Ajay, Devi Charan, Dev, Joy, Lala Methar, Durlav Das, Sumit Das, Sonu Das, Saku Das, Bhajan, Ashiq, Shahit, Shiva Das and Dwip Das.

On November 26, 2024, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was beaten and hacked to death in a clash over the bail of Sanatani Jagran Jote spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das in the Chattogram Court Building area. His father Jamal Uddin filed a murder case with the city's Kotwali police station, naming 31 people. On June 1, 2025, the investigation officer of the case, the then Assistant Police Commissioner of Kotwali Zone of CMP, Mahfuzur Rahman, submitted a chargesheet in the Alif murder case to the relevant branch of the Chattogram Court.
