Gaurab Singh and Abdul Zahir Tanvir pair emerged champions in the All Bangladesh final of the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International Series 2025 in men's doubles at Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital on Friday evening.
In the men's doubles final, Gaurab-Tanvir pair defeated their fellow citizen Mizanur Rahman and Rahatun Nayem pair by 21-19, 17-21 and 22-20 points (2-1 set) to seal the title.
In the fiercely contested first set, the Gaurab Singh and Abdul Zahir Tanvir pair won by 21-19 points. After changing the court in the second set, the luck of the Mizanur Rahman and Rahatun Nayem pair changed. They started getting consecutive points. Despite falling behind by 7-1 points in this game, the Gaurab-Tanvir pair advanced by 15-13 points.
In the second set, Mizan and Naeem won by 21-17 points, and the game was drawn by 1-1. The two pairs also developed a fierce competition in the third set. Both pairs were equal at 20-20 points. But in the end, the Gaurab-Tanvir pair won the last set by 22-20 points and became the champion by 2-1 sets.
Badminton Federation President Habib Ullah Don, General Secretary Russell Kabir Suman, DIG of Police and Federation Joint Secretary Taptun Nasrin and DIG of Police (Special Branch) Md. Moniruzzaman witnessed the final and distributed prizes among the winners.
In an announcement, President Habib Ullah Don said, "We had announced a prize of US$1,000 for Al Amin Jumar and Urmi Akhtar in the mixed doubles final of the International Badminton Challenge. This time, both of our pairs are playing in the men's doubles final of the International Series. So, we will discuss with the federation and announce a separate financial prize for them to encourage them."
Meanwhile, Thailand lifted the women's doubles title at the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International Series, capping a composed performance on the final day. The Thai pair of Thitiworada and Sarisa outplayed Malaysia's Jan Min Yee and Tan Jing Hui in a three-set final, winning 21-13, 17-21 and 21-17 to take the crown.
In women's singles, India emerged on top as Tanvi Reddy showed her class in the final. She defeated Malaysia's Lim Zhi Shin in straight games, 21-19 and 21-9, to clinch the title and underline her growing stature on the international circuit. The men's singles title went to Kazakhstan, with Dmitriy Panarin producing a strong finish to overcome Malaysia's Mohammad Haris Sufian Rushdan. After sharing the first two games, Panarin sealed the match 21-16, 14-21 and 21-10 to stand tallest on the podium.
The finals were attended by senior officials, including Taptun Nasrin, DIG (Headquarters), Bangladesh Police and Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation, Md Moniruzzaman, DIG (Protection), Special Branch, Bangladesh Police, BBF General Secretary Russel Kabir Suman, and Mahbub Rob, national award-winning shuttler and former BBF General Secretary.
