Participation of high level leadership is essential for COP conference: Fisheries Adviser

Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has said that the country's high level leadership participation is essential in the United Nations Global Climate Conference (COP).  She made the remark at the Cotton Development Board in the capital on Monday while addressing a debriefing workshop after participating in the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP-30.

Farida Akhter further said that in presence to Prime Minister or Advisory Council Member can play a pivotal role in any global conference as the representative of a country. ''Our country is suffering from many problems including climate change, she added and said again that if we take combined effort it will be possible to reduce the potential damage caused by climate change to a large extent,'' she added.

The Adviser however came up and said again that, Bangladesh need to make an expert group as well as we have to give utmost importance regarding on Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) creating problem. Moreover fisheries and livestock sector is damaging by it. She however urged for giving equal importance not only to technology but also to the knowledge and experience of people.

The program was organized by the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry and presided over by the Ministry Concerned Secretary Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber. Forest, Environment and Climate Change Ministry Secretary Dr. Farhia Ahmed spoke as the special guest. Welcome speech was delivered by the Forest, Environment and Climate change ministry Additional Secretary Mohammad Navid Safiullah and keynote papers was delivered by the Environment Department Director Mirza Shawkath Ali. Economic Relations Division Additional Secretary AKM Sohel, BD Centre for Climate Justice Executive Director Mohammad Hafizul Islam Khan, Youth Net Global Executive Coordinator Sohanur Rahman, BARSIC Director Pavel Partha, BD climate change Trust MD Gazi Md. Wali-ul-Haq, PKSF DMD Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadek Ahmed were also participated at the discussion.

In addition, Senior officials from differentMinistries and Departments and NGO representatives were present at the event.
