Ansar-VDP advances welfare-oriented transport system

Ansar-VDP advances welfare-oriented transport system

The Ansar-VDP Welfare Trust has formally expanded its transport service operations with the aim of ensuring overall welfare and enhancing the institutional capacity of members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), according to a press release.  Speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony held at the Ansar-VDP Headquarters on Wednesday (January 7) Director General of the force, Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, said that capacity building is crucial to make the vast organisational structure of Ansar and VDP across the country more effective and sustainable. "This transport system is not merely a service; it is part of a long-term and sustainable welfare initiative for nearly six million members of the force," he said.

He further added that income generated from the transport service would be utilised for the overall welfare of members and that the facility would be gradually expanded to cover all members. Given the large number of personnel, the initiative will be implemented in a planned and phased manner to establish a well-structured welfare framework, enabling future generations of members to benefit from a defined and institutionalised welfare system. Highlighting transport as a key component of capacity development, the Director General said the service would not remain limited to internal needs alone.

Members' skills, cottage industries and professional capabilities would be integrated into the supply chains of various development projects undertaken by the force, thereby enabling the vast manpower of Ansar and VDP to be engaged more effectively in public service.

He also noted that the transport system would be used across different districts of the country for major state and institutional activities, including the upcoming national election. In the initial phase, two additional divisions have been connected to the bus service alongside four existing divisions. Gradually, all divisions and districts of the country will be brought under this transport network. Emphasising the role of the Ansar-VDP Welfare Trust, the Director General said, "The Welfare Trust is the sole focal point for the welfare and prosperity of the force's members. Every member of the force is an owner of this trust. Therefore, this initiative must be managed in an institution- and member-centric manner, rather than being individual-centric, to ensure that this journey of overall development and well-being remains sustainable and long-lasting." According to sources at Ansar-VDP Headquarters, the transport facility is being ensured for officers, employees, male and female members and their families carrying valid identification cards. The service will be used for leave and transfer travel, battalion movements, ration and logistics transportation, and other emergency official purposes. The transport service was inaugurated on 28 October 2025 by the Honourable Home Affairs Adviser, who handed over six buses, 14 covered vans, nine troop carriers and two modern ambulances. As part of the ongoing expansion, two new buses, two air-conditioned coasters and 11 1.5-ton troop carriers were added to the transport service at today's event.

Overall, the expansion of the transport service under the Ansar-VDP Welfare Trust is being viewed as a landmark step towards enhancing the welfare, institutional capacity and operational efficiency of the force. Through planned implementation, transparent management and a member-centric approach, stakeholders hope this initiative will play a vital role in transforming the Ansar and Village Defence Party into a more organised, self-reliant and sustainable people's defence force in the future. The event was also attended by Additional Director General Brigadier General Mamunur Rashid, deputy directors general, officers and employees of various ranks, and members of the force.
