Narayanganj AL leader dies in prison

An Awami League leader named Humayun Kabir (55) has died in jail custody who was confined inside Narayanganj District Prison. Humayun Kabir died in the capital's National Cardiovascular Diseases Institute and Hospital on Tuesday morning (13 January 2026). Humayun Kabir was a resident of Golachipa area in Narayanganj town. He is former president of a local arbitration committee.  Humayun Kabir held the Awami League Vice President post in Ward Number 13 under Narayanganj City Corporation. Relevant sources have informed that Humayun Kabir's health status suddenly deteriorated on Monday night at around 9 pm. He was immediately shifted to National Cardiovascular Diseases Institute and Hospital in Dhaka city. 

Humayun Kabir breathed his last yesterday morning at 7 am. Deceased Humayun Kabir's family members have claimed that cops arrested him on 18 December 2024. Reportedly Humayun Kabir was arrested over no specific charges but afterwards he was sued with a police case associated with the July Uprising 2024. 

Narayanganj Jail Super Forkan Wahid told reporters that jail authorities acted quickly when Humayun Kabir felt unwell on Monday night. Humayun Kabir passed away while undergoing medical treatment at the Dhaka hospital named above, the Narayanganj Jail Super further said.
